I’ve been in childcare for 7 years, mostly as an assistant educator, and I’ve stepped up plenty of times when needed, just never with the official title.
I’m going to be starting a new job at a small centre where I am the Lead Educator for the 2–5 room, as well as the 2IC and Educational Leader. I’m confident with working in the room, but the formal 2IC and Educational Leader responsibilities are new for me.
For those who’ve done these roles, especially in smaller centres:
– How did you get on top of all the extra responsibilities quickly?
– Any routines or systems that helped you juggle it all without burning out?
– Mistakes you made early on that I should avoid?
I want to start strong and make sure I’m supporting the children, the team, and the families the best I can. Any advice or tips would be amazing.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Starting as Lead Educator, 2IC & Educational Leader — advice needed
I remember feeling nervous when I first stepped into a role with more responsibility, so I can relate to this. What helped me most was taking things one day at a time fnaf, getting to know the team, and not being afraid to ask for guidance when I needed it.
