Need help
A sudanese family visits the centre. The Director is away for meeting. You overhear another staff talking to this family about enrolling their child. All staff have been informed that there are 5 more spots to fill.

Scenerio: " Hi we have just moved in down the road we would like to enrol our two year old daughter Anisa"
"Sorry,you've come to the wrong place. there is a wonderful sudanese child care centre at the end of the street. They have a great program for your family"
"No, I actually wanted to enrol her here"
"Sorry,we are full".

What has alarmed you about this interaction?
The staff member doesn't want Sudanese kid at the centre. In-spite of knowing that there are 5 spots there to fill she told her that we are full.The approved provider and nominated supervisor of an education and care service must ensure that all children enrolled in the service without bias regardless of a religion, culture, family structure or economic status.

Does Anisa's family have the right to enrol their daughter . Give reason
Yes, Acording to information regarding enrolment capacity there is a spot for her and based on'Priority for allocating places' priority should be given to children in families from non-English speaking background.

Who do you take your concerns about this family's unfair treatment to?
Director

The family returns to the service the following day to complain about the unfair treatment they recieved.Their limited english is making it difficult for them to explain their needs.What support would you give them regarding expressing their needs.

I will let her know all the facilities available at our centre so that she can explain other needs what's not explained in it.

your answers are fine ... perhaps for the last one you can suggest they bring someone who can help them explain their needs in the case that even after you explaining they cannot express what they are trying to say
