hi can anyone say if am on the right track answering this scenario ?
Noticing difference
In-group time, Naomi the educator and the children were discussing the visual symbols that each of the children had brought in to represent their family. Sally (3 years 8 months) notices that Jason’s symbol has his two mums on it. Raoul (4 years 2 months) laughs and says ‘You can’t have two mums’.
How could the Educator respond to Raoul’s comments?
Answer: The Educator can explain to Raoul and other children that all families are different and can discuss this in the group saying some children have two mums and some children have two dads and some children have a mum and a dad. The educators can explain to children that each family is different and that’s ok. The educator can also read them a book about same sex parents.
What opportunities could you provide for the children to investigate different family structures?
Answer:
• Group discussion about same sex and different sex families.
• Reading a book about same sex parents
• Looking at educational videos about different family structures. For example families might live together with grandparents, aunts and uncles or step-parents.

Re: scenario about same sex parents
Yes you're on the right track with your response! You can also include posters and images in home corner for example of the different family structures...
