Scenario...
You are currently employed as an assistant educator in a pre-school room in an Early Childhood Education and Care Service.
During morning tea Heather, aged 4.5, tells you that her Aunty Maureen is visiting from Queensland. During the discussion Heather describes her Aunty Maureen as ‘very angry, shouting Aunty Maureen’.
That afternoon Aunty Maureen arrives to collect Heather from the service. When Heather sees her Aunty her demeanour changes, she stops talking, and appears highly anxious with frozen watchfulness. Heather moves over to stand beside you.
• Identify two legal obligations you have as an early childhood educator.
In this question was my answer
• Duty of care obligations
• Occupational Health and Safety obligations
but those are incorrect. I have no idea for this one what is the answer.
Lorina, can you help me figure out this
and
• What documentation would you need to complete during or after managing this situation?
I wrote for this one : Incident, injury, trauma, and illness record and Incident and accident report
and also incorrect.
Can you help me Lorina......
Thanks
Ruvi

Re: Scenario: Very Angry Shouting Aunty Maureen
I think in regards to the legal obligations you need to see if Aunty Maureen is an authorised person to collect Heather from the service. If not, you will need to ring the parents to confirm who Aunty Maureen is and get the proper ID before letting Heather go with her. For the second legal obligation, I'm actually not too sure, just because Aunty Maureen may scream it doesn't mean she is being abusive... Maybe you could mention that Heather told you all about her visit from Queensland and what she did during the day... Oh another thought I just had, you should tell Heather's parents about what she said to you and how her behaviour changed when she saw Aunty Maureen.
With documentation, probably an authorised collection form and may just take a record of what Heather said to you, how her behaviour changed and keep a note of it on file...
Hope this helps!
