Developmental Summary - Lilu

Post by brooklynfuller » Tue Sep 27, 2016 8:44 pm

Hi just wondering if someone could give me some assistance with this question.

Using the observations on ‘Lilu’ for Task 1 complete a Learning and Development Summary. The Learning and Development summary must describe the progress that the child is making towards each EYLF Outcome (or approved Learning Framework) and cover all developmental domains

EYLF Outcomes are:
• Children have a strong sense of identity (Emotional development)
• Children are connected with and contribute to their world (Social development)
• Children have a strong sense of wellbeing (Physical – gross and fine motor and Emotional development)
• Children are confident and involved learners (Cognitive development)
• Children are effective communicators (Communication development

These are my observations from task 1:

From this observation I note the following
Lilu showed the ability to combine, separate and sort her blocks, think logically when counting out the numbers of the blocks, understand the meaning of her words and notice differences in the objects she was using (Cognitive Development)
Lilu showed great communication when speaking to her mother, she asked a lot of questions about the blocks, was able to use simple sentences when talking and understand simple explanations (Communication)
Lilu’s fine motor skills are well developed, she had great hand eye coordination when building the blocks upon eachother. (Physical)
Lilu showed a number of emotions when building her tower, she showed a sense of happiness when she had seen how high she had built her tower, started to giggle with excitement as her tower started wobbling, and showed motivation to begin a new concept Puzzle Mach. (Emotional)

In the developmental summary I have link my answers to these questions:

EYLF
Children are confident and involved learners Include Cognitive and Creative development: dispositions for learning, play and learning styles, sharing knowledge with others, persistence and concentration, initiating experiences and exploring their ideas.

Strengths, Interests and Emerging Skills, Relationships??

Any assistance would be great.
Thankyou :)

When using a learning outcome, you could also connect it to a sub outcome which will identify the skill the child is developing through their play.

How Children Achieve Outcomes

Hi Lorina,
These are my answers I have used for my developmental summary can you tell me if this is correct and if I am on the right track?
Thanks.

Children have a strong sense of identity
Include Emotional development – self regulation, independence and autonomy, confidence, empathy:
Lilu has showed that she is able to communicate her needs for assistance and openly expresses her feelings and ideas in her interactions with her mother. She is confident in her self-identity and is able to make her own choices.

Children are connected with and contribute to their world Include Social development- participation in groups, sharing, turn taking; respect for the environment, diversity and social justice:
Lilu is able to instigate play and seems to enjoy socialising with her parent. She would benefit from playing with others who like to take the lead in the play, allowing her to focus on following someone else’s script.

Children have a strong sense of wellbeing Include Physical development (fine /gross), self-care skills; Emotional development: recognising and expressing emotions appropriately:
Lilu is able to show that she has very strong small motor skills when playing as she picks up her blocks with control and places them on top of each other, she is able to recognise her achievements and share her happiness and satisfaction.

Children are confident and involved learners Include Cognitive and Creative development: dispositions for learning, play and learning styles, sharing knowledge with others, persistence and concentration, initiating experiences and exploring their ideas:
Lilu has the ability to apply thinking strategies to solve problems and recognise similarities and differences, I witnessed this when she investigated her tower and realised she had put one of her blocks the wrong way and decided to take it down and build it again.
Lilu enjoys the satisfaction of her achievements, is an active thinker with a great amount of knowledge and grasps concepts easily.

Children are effective communicators Include Communication development; verbal and non-verbal, receptive and expressive language; language background and use of languages other than English, literacy:
Lilu is increasingly familiar with the concept of conversation, she asks a lot of questions when speaking to her mother, interacts well with her to explore ideas and concepts, clarify and challenge thinking and negotiate and share new understandings.

OK, so I can give you one idea to get you started... For your last summary on Lilu regarding literacy to develop further upon her skills you could maybe get her to create her own story. So, for this you could give her a picture or a scene from a book and let her tell a story about what's happening in the picture, where you could write the words as she tells you what's happening...
