CHCORG627B - Scenario: Trish Screaming Around Joshua

Post by elanf » Tue Jun 07, 2016 12:07 pm

Hi everyone!

So I am having quite a bit of trouble answering these scenario questions on supporting others. I will attach a picture of the scenario,
IMG_0729.JPG
a) list the concerns you will need to raise in relation to this incident (and in light of previous discussions)
- trish's attitude & tone of voice towards children
- trish's lack of progress regarding raising her voice or yelling toward the children
- the negative effect it has/is having on students and trainees

b) Outline the steps (actions) that you will need to take to make Trish aware of her performance and to address the issues in a reasonable manner
take Trish aside, ask if she is aware that she is raising her voice toward the children. Discuss what is wrong with yelling (in the ECEC sector; lose the message, miss out on positives etc), and why calm (voices) are better ; kids feel safer, modeling behaviour is major.
perhaps suggest a couple of strategies for Trish to use, or allow Trish to come up with strategies to guide her in becoming more calm with the children

c) You feel it is important to also speak to Joshua. What will you say in relation to ethical conduct?
Firstly I would apologise to Joshua for having observed or been a part of the incident that took place.
-not sure what to say in relation to ethical conduct?

d) You decide to hand over the supervision and mentoring of Joshua to Kate - why is this a good decision?
This is a good decision because it seems that Joshua feels comfortable with Kate, coming to her when a situation arises.

e) What are the industry documents you would refer Trish to and why?
The ECA code of ethics ; respecting children, families and colleagues
Convention on the rights of the child ; work towards what is best for children, education should develop each child's personality and talents to the full
National Quality Standard ; respectful and equitable relationships developed and maintained with children
These documents refer to the rights of the child, the role of the educator providing respectful interactions, and educators working towards what is best for each child.

There is also another task that is causing me a bit of grief. it states;
Outline a personal experience that you could share with a mentoree to assist them with their progress toward one of their goals.
my answer so far; at the beginning of my first year within the industry as a cert III, I was quite nervous and shy as it was a large integrated service that offers the early years learning program - kinder & LDC, maternal and child health service and playgroups with more than 50 educators employed there.
- not really sure how to end the answer? - within 2 or 3 school terms I found myself feeling like I belonged to the service, through the staff meetings, out of hours fundraisers, celebrations and get together's. Educators and other professionals belonging to the service proved to be considerate and welcoming to me, as well as sharing their own knowledge and personal values for me to reflect upon and build on my own professional knowledge, values and beliefs.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. (in advance)

The director will have to have a discussion with Trish outlining what she had observed today as well as any incidents in the past. A formal warning may also be issued:

Grieviance Policy

Maybe you could relate it to: Code Of Ethics

elanf wrote:QR_BBPOST d) You decide to hand over the supervision and mentoring of Joshua to Kate - why is this a good decision?

She can be a good role model for Joshua and he feels confident and comfortable with her.

So if you were mentoring a student whose goal was to become more confident around parents and educators you can tell them of your experience of being nervous and shy but what did you do to get over that? How would you help a student to be more confident around others?

Hope this helps,
