Cultural Competence Induction Kit

Hey guys i just started my third assessment and i have to create a induction kit i am super stuck on it and havent managed to finish it please help! these are the things i have to do
Your Pack must consist of:
a. Information about relevant legislation and laws that educators must adhere to in their work that relates to cultural competence.
b. Copies of policies and procedures from an early childhood education and care service that support participation and promote inclusive practice – e.g. policies in relation to:
o interactions with children
o enrolment and orientation
o confidentiality
o planning and programming
o partnership and communicating with families.

If you are not able to source policies from an early childhood education and care service, you may undertake internet research to locate applicable policies that can be used to guide staff practices in this area. Include these in your Pack.

c. A list of five suggested practices that will enhance an educator’s ability to be culturally safe.
d. Helpful tips that can be used to challenge discriminatory or bias comments from children, and to challenge stereotypes.
e. A list of six support agencies or services – e.g. interpreters, community organisations, advisory bodies or other professionals that can support individual children and their families with specific cultural needs, or which can discuss equity and inclusion concepts and issues with staff at the service.

You are to make sure at least one of the support agencies or services focuses on helping Aboriginal children and their families.


SO far i have done a introduction here it is :
The early years learning framework describes Cultural competence as more than awareness of cultural
Differences, it is the capability to understand, communicate with and effectively interact with peoples cultures. Cultural competence is underpinned by the principles outlined in the Early years learning frame work, Such as secure, respectful and reciprocal relationships, partnerships, high expectations and equity and respect for diversity. Cultural competence has four components, 1. Awareness of ones own cultural worldview, 2. Attitude towards cultural difference, 3. Knowledge of different cultural practices and worldviews. And 4. Cross-cultural skills. Developing cultural competence will result in the ability to understand, communicate with and effectively interact with people across cultures. Cultural competence is a essential practice for both the early years learning framework and the framework for school aged care my time, our place. It is based on the principle contained in both frameworks- respect for diversity. Competency is something educators strive for constantly, it is what a service must demonstrate to prove it is meeting the national quality standard. Early years learning framework and my time, our place educator guides describe cultural competency as a adventure, this adventure involves developing skills, exploring and questioning attitudes and also gathering knowledge.

I got my grade back she left me feedback on my policies and procedure section which i cant understand

my answer Policies & Procedures:
It is very important that no child, family or employees are discriminated against over the basis of culture, religion or race. Early childhood services need to implement practices that promote inclusive programs and learning activities that allow children to participate in the service. Policies and procedures vary between each establishment and are developed by the services to guide educators on how to practice. Owens 2012 states that inclusive practice is
“ Inclusive practice occurs when educators make thoughtful and informed curriculum decisions and work in partnership with families and other professionals. This helps to ensure that all children—including those with a disability—have equitable and genuine opportunities to participate in and learn from the everyday routines, interactions and play and learning experiences that occur in early learning settings.”

Feedback: please can you list the names of the actual policies from this service which can support inclusion eg: interaction with children

is she asking me to add these
o interactions with children
o enrolment and orientation
o confidentiality
o planning and programming
o partnership and communicating with families.
