Hi all,
Hoping someone can help, I'm running low on ideas and have no idea if I'm even on the right track!
This is what I've done so far:
Assessment 2: Health and Safety Environments
Scenario F.
Question 1: Toys/materials/equipment: List five (5) health and safety features of toys /materials/equipment that would need to be considered for each of the following age groups. Be specific about the children’s developmental stage, and the construction and maintenance of the toys/materials/equipment.
• 0 - 2 years
1 - All equipment must be free from splinters, rust, sharp corners and protrusions therefore proper maintenance must be done
2 - No toys or objects that are able to fit into a container the size of a film canister due to risk of choking as young children like to put things in their mouth
3 - Toys with a high back (eg horse with a high tail) are hard for very young children to get on and off safely, therefore low ride-on-toys would be more appropriate
4 - Stuffed toy construction - ensure eye’s or noses can’t be pulled off causing a choking hazard
5 - Appropriate materials – no foam due to ease of biting into which babies & toddlers are very good at
• 3 - 5 years
1 - All equipment must be free from splinters, rust, sharp corners and protrusions therefore proper maintenance must be done
2 - The soft fall surfaces must meet the recommendations of the National Quality Standards
3 - All climbing equipment must meet Australian Standards due to risk of entrapment
4 - Ride-on-toys - look for the age on the label. Make sure they are strong and don’t tip over easily. Toys with a high back (eg horse with a high tail) are hard for very young children to get on and off safely.
