Scenario: Ahmet Gadai - Ethical Issues

Post by mandeepkaur » Wed Dec 16, 2015 9:02 am

Ahmet Gadai
Ahmet Gadai is 3 years old and is one of Sparkling Stars newest attendees along with his sisters A’shadieeyah, age 5, and Rawhiyah, age 7. He is the youngest child and only son of a Muslim family that have recently immigrated to Australia.
With English being the family’s second language, you have found this has led to communication issues and Ahmet eventually demonstrating some frustrating behaviour in response. You have also noticed that when the father is communicating with any of the women at the centre he is very domineering and aggressive in his approach to any discussion regarding Ahmet’s behaviour. To you, the father seems to favour Ahmet over his two older sisters, as you have noticed he will admonish the girls publicly in their mother language but does not act in the same manner towards Ahmet.
One day, one of your colleagues referred to Ahmet as a ‘little terrorist’. Initially you thought it was just an inappropriate joke but over a few weeks you heard your colleague say it several more times and noticed that she tended to leave Ahmet out of situations so as to not create a situation where Ahmet might play up.
You know there is an ethical issue to be dealt with but are not sure how to proceed
a) Identify three (3) different ethical issues present in this situation.
1. ahmet's father language with the staff
2.colleague used in appropriate word
3. ahmet father admonish with girls publicly

b) Describe the conflict of interest that exists here.
groupleader and educator conflict for using inappropriate word for ahmet

c) Describe three (3) considerations that might influence your own ethical judgment in this scenario.

d) Your personal values and attitudes are some of the considerations that may influence your ethical judgment when dealing with ethical issues.

i. Identify a personal value and an attitude, and describe how these may influence the actions that you would take in the above scenario.

Personal Values Attitudes

How this may influence my actions

ii. How would you take into account these personal values and attitudes to ensure non-judgmental practice?
can anyone plz help me with these question. i would be very thankful to u. plzzzzzzzz

Conflict Of Interest:
One day, one of your colleagues referred to Ahmet as a ‘little terrorist’. Initially you thought it was just an inappropriate joke but over a few weeks you heard your colleague say it several more times and noticed that she tended to leave Ahmet out of situations so as to not create a situation where Ahmet might play up.

Ethical Judgement:

Ahmets culture
Colleagues biased attitudes and misunderstanding of Ahmet
Ahmets the youngest and only son of a Muslim family

Personal Values and Beliefs:

Personal Values and Beliefs

Hope this helps,

Read the link I provided above and describe your Personal Values and Attitudes towards the scenario... Do you think it is wrong what the father is doing? Why? Do you think it is right? Why? What are your beliefs in the matter?

I can only help when you add your own personal values because it's based on what you feel...

i have the same scenario

Question b Describe in a paragraph, how you will appropriately resolve this situation to meet centre standards. Include how you would recognise, avoid and or address any conflict of interest

Qc As the Early Childhood Australia Code of Ethics is considered to be the best practice, consider why it is essential that you address the issue. Refer to your learning materials.

Qd A few weeks later Ahmet's father approaches you, very upset about what has been said to his son. He wants to make a complaint about your colleague
i- referring to the sparking stars policies and procedures how should you deal with this situation?
ii- As an assistant educator how should you work with managers and staff to resolve this issue?
