Technical issue - Images Are Sideways In Templates

Post by LisaJ » Wed Dec 09, 2015 7:12 pm

Hi, sorry this is a technical question. Every time I insert a photo into a template photo box, it is coming out sideways. How do we change this as looks unprofessional. It never used to do this before? Thanks for any help in advance. Lisa

Hi Lisa,

With the inserted image, the photos will have the same dimension as the original photo and you cannot rotate them within the template itself. You need to rotate the Photos using a photo editing software like Windows Photo Viewer or Photoshop before inserting to these Templates. If you are on windows, then its very easy to do that with Windows Photo Viewer.

Here is a link with more info on that:

Hope this helps,

Technical issue

Hi Lorena,

Thanks for your reply to my technical issue re rotating photos in photo viewer. It does seem a lot of effort to go and manually rotate each photo we want to insert. Particularly because in photo viewer, the photo is the right way up. Why doesnt it insert as is. Im finding this very frustrating. Does anyone else have this same problem?
Thanks, Lisa

Hi Again Lisa,

This has happened to me as well. Rotating the photo in Windows Photo Viewer fixed it for me.

If you noticed, its only the portrait photos that will appear sidewards. The reason this happens is because by default all photos have landscape orientation. So when the photo is taken sidewards, the actual photo will also look sideward. Some of the devices do it correctly by auto-rotating it while saving the photo but some will leave them as it is which it why it shows sidewards when attached to a form or emailed, etc.. This is what is causing the inserted photo to appear sideward.

When this happens, you have to rotate the photo yourself so the form knows how to display it correctly. If the photo shows fine in Photo View, rotate it once anticlockwise and rotate it again clockwise and see if it fixes it after that. If its taking too much time to open Windows Photo Viewer each time, you can do the same with the shortcut as well. Simply right click on the image thumbnail and rotate it from there itself.

What device are you using to take the photo? Is it iPhone or another mobile or a digital camera? What make is it?

I will also give you a few links on the internet where users have discussed solution on fixing the sideward photo issues:

UPDATE FOR WINDOWS 10:

If you are using Windows 10 with Photos App and if you notice the photos are showing sidewards when inserted into the form, please follow the below steps to edit the photo before inserting to the template:

1) Open the photo from your computer using the Photos App.

2) Photo app may show the photo correctly when viewing from their app. Click the edit button (pencil icon) to edit the photo.

3) In the edit mode, click the rotate button to rotate the photo sideward and save that photo.

4) After saving, click the edit button once again and rotate the photo back to the correct position.

5) Click save again.

After this, when you add the edited photo to the form, it will display correctly. Unfortunately there is no way around this issue since the trouble has to do with the way the device stores the image information when the photo was taken vertically. For template, I find that its always best to take photos in Landscape orientation so it fits perfect when inserting into the template and you don't need to manually rotate it each time. If you do need to fix the portrait photo from showing sidewards, the above method is probably the easiest way around it for now.

Hope this helps!
