Differences Of MTOP vs EYLF

Just after some imput on my answers for these questions. (Mainly question 2)

1. Access a copy of the EYLF and MTOP. Highlight three (3) differences you can see between the two.
• EYLF is focused on children between the ages birth to 5years, while MTOP is focused on children between 6-12years.
• EYLF has a focus on helping children transition into school by giving them opportunities to maximise potential and develop a foundation for success and learning, while MTOP insures children already in schooling have opportunities to participate in leisure based experiences which contribute to ongoing learning and development.
• EYLF is designed for Early Childhood Educators working in partnership with families, while MTOP is designed for use by School Age Care Educators to collaborate with children and work in partnership with family and communities, including schools. MTOP allows for children to have a more active role in planning for their wellbeing and the outcomes.


2. Why do you think the differences you identified exist?

By taking into account the different age and developmental stages of children, a greater quality of care and attention to meet individual needs can be provided, this helps improve the educational outcomes for children.
The Early Childhood Education setting (0-5) helps teach children the skills needed for transition from home life to schooling, such as independence, confidence, and social skills, while school age care children have already made this transition so programs are developed that nurture these skills and complements the relationships formed at school, home, and the community. The different frameworks also recognise that as children learn and grow, they become more capable of making informed decisions that impact and influence their learning. MTOP extends on the principles, practices and outcomes of EYLF to accommodate the contexts, age range and development stages of children and young people
