Gaining Knowledge On The Context Of Children

Hi all,

I am trying to answer bellow questions. Help and advice appreciated.

1.How do you gain knowledge on the ‘contexts’ of children’s lives?
To collect more information I communicate with other EC professionals and educators that support the service, parents and children.
2.How do you gather and use feedback and comments from other educators, children and families?
I used a variety of strategies to collect, document, organise, synthesise and interpret the information that I gather to assess children’s learning. I searched for appropriate ways to collect rich and meaningful information that depicts children’s learning in context, describes their progress and identifies their strengths, skills and understandings.
3.How do you make time available to share information with parents?
By arranging appointment
4. How could observations be shared with families?
By communicating with families, meetings, pick up and drop of times, journals, newsletters
5. How would you follow up concerns regarding a child’s development? What appropriate persons/services would be involved? In terms of inclusion what would you need to think about?
6.Reflect on how you would ensure all children are included in your observations across a period of time.
7.Reflect on how you would develop a flexible daily timetable
8.Highlight emerging skills, capabilities and interests of children.
9.How your program meets the requirements of the NQF. You must make concrete links to numerous areas of the NQS.

What do you do? Feedback forms, suggestion box, conversations, emails, communication books. Do you add it to the program, do you keep it in the child's portfolio?
How do you make time available to share information with parents?

Yes, also making yourself free in the afternoon during pick up by having extra staff (if possible), giving parents a time throughout the day when they can contact you etc.
How could observations be shared with families?

Making them available in child's portfolios and files that parents have access to. Giving parents an opportunity to take portfolios home to read quarterly (which also includes obs). Observations are confidential and should only be shared to individual families.

I am trying to answer below questions. Plese give me a clue to start. i am strangling to start.

Follow up with parents , family via emails, face to face conversations

What appropriate persons/services would be involved?
Early child hood specialists

In terms of inclusion what would you need to think about?

Devise an inclusion plan

6.Reflect on how you would ensure all children are included in your observations across a period of time.

Observe group times

7.Reflect on how you would develop a flexible daily timetable that is respectful of children’s rights.

Allow child to choose what they want to do.Indoor and outdoor open ended play spaces

8.Highlight emerging skills, capabilities and interests of children.(The experiences and resources reflect diversity and inclusion.
The student reflects on the program and how it sits with their own philosophy and goals.)
Still trying to understand this question.

9.How your program meets the requirements of the NQF. You must make concrete links to numerous areas of the NQS.
No idea how shroud i start answering this question.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Take observations, talk to parents, talk to educators working with the child etc.
What appropriate persons/services would be involved?

In terms of inclusion what would you need to think about?

Supporting A Child With Additional Needs
Reflect on how you would ensure all children are included in your observations across a period of time.

Set up a checklist and a monthly timetable to ensure children are being observed and outcomes they have achieved.
Reflect on how you would develop a flexible daily timetable that is respectful of children’s rights.

Yes, give them a range of options from which they can choose what they would like to engage in etc. Expand on your response...
8.Highlight emerging skills, capabilities and interests of children.(The experiences and resources reflect diversity and inclusion.The student reflects on the program and how it sits with their own philosophy and goals.)

It sounds like this question can only be done during work placement as you need to reflect on your entire program. The interests children have shown, their skills (cutting, jumping, counting etc), the resources you have provided are from a wide range of cultures (e.g. dolls with different skin colour, dress ups with costumes from different cultures, home corner to include chopsticks, spoons, forks, etc) and how your program meets your philosophy and goals.
How your program meets the requirements of the NQF. You must make concrete links to numerous areas of the NQS.

Guide To The NQS

For Q8 and Q9 you will need to have developed and written a weekly program in order to respond to these questions properly.
