HLTHIR403C - Work effectively with culturally diverse clients and co-workers

Post by Kate95 » Sat Sep 19, 2015 3:20 pm

This is the scenario we are given to work with:
Questions 2: There is a new staff member Zahra from Rwanda. Some of the co-workers have been frustrated by the miscommunication that has occurred due to cross cultural differences. Similarly Zahra has approached the Director and asked for assistance as she does not understand all the information given to her by her colleagues.

This is the question I have to answer:
If you were the director what strategies would you put into place for Zahra and the other staff to understand that there may be cultural difference in our practices and how will you build and encourage successful, positive and professional relationships?

This is my attempted answer:
Strategies to deal with this situation and improve it would be put in place as quickly as possible and the director would ensure that all the staff, including Zahra understanding what they are. It might be necessary to have the centre’s policies and procedures translated into Zahra’s home language. This will ensure she understands exactly what they say.
It is important for Zahra and the other educators to understand their differences and accept them. These differences can enrich the centre atmosphere as everyone contributes to build respectful relationships. The Early Childhood Australia’s Code of Ethics is a good place to start

Am i on the right track for answering the question? I'm not really sure how to go about it.... Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you!
