c. How will you develop a nurturing relationship with Katherine? Describe how you will ensure consistency of care routines and provide a rich environment for Katherine that will support her skill development? Use the information in the case study in your answer. You should identify at least five strategies.

Your answers need to include your actions/strategies and examples of your communication with Amanda and Katherine.

This is what I have so Far

The Quality of the interaction between infant and educator plays a vital part in creating a secure attachment. As a caregiver creating a nurturing relationship with Katherine I would need to respond positively to her needs and create a feeling of trust and security. By interacting with Katherine and implementing her rituals and routines from home I can help establish this trust.

- Comforters: Katherine uses a dummy and cuddles for comfort. By giving Katherine her dummy and cuddling her whilst talking to her softly when she is distressed or just needing a bit more physical comfort will help her to feel secure and form a nurturing bond.
- Sleep Routine: It is important to continue Katherine’s sleep routine as she would at home. This will help establish a nurturing and comforting relationship. Make sure to watch out for Katherine’s cues that she is tired; she may become a little whiny, have difficulty coordinating movements and will rub her eyes. Offer Katherine her bottle of expressed breast milk make eye contact during this time with Katherine. Continue her sleep time ritual “very tired, time for bed” place her in her sleeping bag whilst singing the lullaby ‘ten little teddy bears sitting on the wall’ gentle rock Katherine for a minute or two and gentle place her in the cot and say the words “very tired, time for bed’
- Meals: Continue to encourage Katherine to self-feed at meal times give her, her own spoon to play with and let her explore the foods with touch, smell and taste. Talk to Katherine during meal times and describe the food she is playing with and eating. Let her use a two handled cup to drink water from.
- Toys and Games: help Katherine feel comfortable by playing with toys she enjoys such as stacking cups, pots and pans, read her storeys when she needs some quite time. Sing nursery rhymes and tickle rhymes like round and round the garden in a group setting. Provide objects that Katherine can manipulate.

I am having trouble with a 5 strategy and wondering if my answers so far are detailed enough??

Your response is good! It's well thought out and you have given good information which relates back to the scenario!

Another strategy could be have a primary caregiver that will be there each day Katherine arrives in the morning and that will support Katherine during the transition period. The primary caregiver can be a consistent person who will develop trust and a nurturing relationship with Katherine. This will enable Katherine to settle down quicker once she familiarises herself with educators in the room.
