Administering medication

Post by mjane » Fri Jul 03, 2015 1:41 pm

Hello,

If anyone could help please!
List 10 things you will need to check BEFORE you administer medication to a child

Have 8 things so far ..

1. Check medication form, previoulsy completed and sign by parent/guardian
2. Prescribed by doctor and in original labeled packaging
3. Right child, check child's name and date of birth on label
4. Right medication - check label
5. Expiry date has not passed
6. Right dosage - check label and authorization form
7. Check measuring device and double check with another Educator
8. Correct time - check form and label match

Thank you =)

That's ok =) Thank you Lorina for your help!

I did change a few things, just wanted to get your opinion please

1. Check medication form, previously completed and signed by parent/guardian
2. Prescribed by a doctor 3. All label information coincides with authorized medication form
4. In original packaging 5. Right child, check child's name and date of birth on label
6. Right medication - check label
7. Expiry date has not passed
8. Correct time - check label and authorization form 9. Right dosage - check label and authorization form
10. Check measuring device and double check with another Educator, both educators must sign the medication form, date and make note of the time

Thank you again for your help and time =)

Hi Lorina
A lot of the links you post don't work any more. I get a 404 error.

Yes, most of these are done more than a couple of years ago so you may receive an error when trying to access links on other websites. In that case, try and google the same title as it states in the link I added for e.g. "Administering Medicine" and you may be able to find an alternate link to use.
