CHCECE016 - Floor plan, NQS, hygiene, emergency plan

Post by veronicanguyen » Sat May 30, 2015 12:14 am

Hi everyone. I am doing my new unit and I have some questions I do not understand really well. Please help to correct/ explain them to me. Thanks a lot.

1) Provide a floor plan of the entire play area that shows the materials and equipment currently set up for children. For each of the areas on the floor plan, evaluate whether enough space has been allocated for the children to participate.

My answer:

I know that the room where I am working provides each child with at least 3.25 square metres of indoor space. But, I am not sure about each area. What does it mean? An example I can think of is the block area of the room. It is set up for 2 children. Does it mean the block area must offer at least 3.25 square metres for each child joining in it? In this example, i have 2 children, so the block area must provide at least 6.45 square metres. The room I am working accommodate 8 children and it has 5 areas. Each play area is designed to have 2 -3 children. If we have to provide each child at least 3.25 square metres for each area, it will be so .........

)I hope my explanation is not so difficult for you to understand, pls excuse my poor English)

2) Which National Quality Standard (NQS) element related to children making appropriate decisions regarding their participation?

My answer: Element 1.1.6: Each child’s agency is promoted, enabling them to make choices and decisions and to influence events and their world.

3) What part of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) or Framework for School Age Care links to this element?

My answer Outcome 1.2: Children develop their emerging autonomy, inter-dependence, resilience and sense of agency.

4) Create a fact sheet on hygiene practices for parents. The fact sheet should contain the following:
• Information from the publication Staying healthy (www.nhmrc.gov.au) and directions in how to access it. => Do I have to mention generally about the purpose of this publication?
• A suggested schedule for parents to wash their children’s toys and equipment at home. => I read the "Staying Healthy" and it mentions generally about what should be washed daily and weekly.
Do I need to talk more specifically such as when parents should wash dolls, puzzles, dress-up clothes etc.?

5) In the emergency management plan, locate the information on telephones. Do all educators have ready access to a phone or similar means of communication?
My answer: I do not have answer. I do not understand " locate information on telephones" and how should I answer "Do all educators have ready access to a phone or similar means of communication?". The office room is always opened and the phone is there for using. I am not so sure how I should answer the question.

6) Which telephone numbers are listed in the emergency management plan as key contacts? Explain how staff access these numbers if needed?
My answer: key contacts: "000" for fire, ambulance, police. What about "Explain how staff access these numbers if needed?". Don't we just call "000" by using a phone??

Sorry that i ask so many questions, but some of them are so confusing for me.

Thanking in advance for you help.

Have a nice weekend everyone.

1) A floor plan is a drawing/layout of the room:

Floor Plan 1
Floor Plan 2

4) Yes, you should mention main points of the publication what they can use it for etc. You should also include a sample timetable of what toys should be washed and how to wash them etc.

5) During an emergency does staff have access to phones? Are there mobile phones avaibale to contact families and emergency services etc in case of an emergency?

6) There could be a list in the staff room or next to the telephones on emergency contact numbers.

This will help as well:

Emergency Management Plans

Hope this helps,

Hi Lorina, Thanks for your answers. It helps me a lot.

I am still not very sure about question 1: Does it mean each area of the room must ensure each child participating in that area at least 3.25 square metres or it does not matter how many areas the room has, as long as a child has 3.25 square metres of the indoor space?

Thanks Lorina.

Yeah so you will need to probably estimate each area and figure out if children have enough play space for that particular play area depending on how many children play in that area at once. For example: block area, puzzle area, home corner etc.

Hope this makes sense,

Hi Lorina, sorry for replying late. Thanks for your help. Yeah, it helps a lot. I asked my instructor, she said" when we set up activities/ areas in the room, have to ensure each child has at least 3.25 square metres.

Can you please help me with this question.

"Create a poster outlining the service’s emergency procedures and incident management plan. Include types of incidents, emergency contact numbers, location and information to provide to emergency services."

I made an evacuation procedure poster. But I do not understand about "incident management plan". Isn't it similar to the emergency procedure? Or is it a different one and I have to make a poster containing both emergency procedure and incident management plan?

Thanking you in advance. Sorry to ask so many questions, my instructor is .......... Look like she is very impatient with my questions. This forum and you are very great for me. Hope i can finish my Dip by the end of the year.
