Scenario: Finding Out About Children In Care

Post by heropuppy » Sun Apr 05, 2015 4:11 pm

You are working as a childcare worker in a day care centre and it is your first shift.
How will you find out about all of the children in your care? What strategies will you take?

Here is my answer?
I would ask the supervisor questions before working one on one or in groups.
And if I have any individual questions about student/s, I would ask more experienced
staff. As I get to know the students I could refer to documentation and daily diarys
to learn more about the students.

Yes, you're on the right track...

- You can refer to them as "children" rather than "students"
- Talk to the children (get to know them)
- Ask other educators within the room
- Talk to the children's parents
- Ask room leader if you're able to go through the children's individual portfolios

Hope this helps,
