Long service leave for casual workers

Post by chak » Wed Feb 18, 2015 3:14 pm

I've been working at same centre more than 12 years now.
Due to my children were still young and I had a other commitment, I only worked a few hours (average 1-2days/week) as casual for 10 years.
Finally I decided to work as a permanent part time 3days/week 2 years ago.
Someone told me that even casuals are entitled to receive long service leave.. Is this true? My employer never mentioned to me anything about that.

The same centre for over 12 years! Wow! That's great! You must of seen so many changes and improvements over your time at the centre. Shows what a great commitment you have!

Yes, as a casual you are eligible for long service leave but it depends on the laws for your specific state. You can find out more info here:

Long Service Leave

Hope this helps,

BTW - Sorry for my delayed response, I've been away for the past week.

Yeah that's a good idea! You could also give a copy of the info you find to your boss so they can see as well, during you discussion... Maybe your boss isn't aware of this...
