[i]You work in a Family day care and Sineah who is 4 years old has recently returned to the service after some time in hospital after having an ear operation. Previous to her hospitalization she was easy going, always helpful with a happy friendly nature.. After returning you observer her often sitting alone just watching and not joining in with play and her friends. She now needs prompting for transition and refuses to help pack up. She constantly ask when her parents will be there to pick her up.

[b]What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?[/b]
[i]Transition back to Family Day Care can be hard after having an operation. She could be feeling some anxiety and wanting to be comforted by her family or even still not feeling 100%. I would go and engage with Sinead, get down to her level and talk about how she is feeling, listen to her and comfort her.
The fact that she has gone from an easy going, happy and helpful child to the opposite with sitting alone and not wanting to pack up or join in has made me wonder if she is doing ok.
Being that Sineah has just had an ear operation she might still be finding it hard to hear and may still hurt, so we need to be aware of these factors. Her health issues could be impacting on her physical learning. This all needs to be confidential, but this will help us in understanding how Sineah could be feeling and give us ways to support her and her learning. Talking with her parents and letting them know, she might need more time at home until she is feeling 100 % better.
We could make her a special helper for the day, or include a buddy to help guide her back to our routine and include games with her friends to make her feel a part of the group again.[/i]
