Templates and tracing with EYLF

Post by Steffelz » Wed May 01, 2013 8:36 pm

Hi guys,
Im not sure if this post is in the right section...
I was hoping someone could shed some light on a situation for me, I know that with EYLF we cant use templates for children to decorate but are we allowed to trace around the children?
My preschoolers are very into under the sea and "mer-people" etc. So I had the idea of getting large sheets of paper, getting them to lie on the paper with their ankles crossed (to make a tail shape) then I would trace around the shape of their bodies and then they could use, paint and collage to decorate their "mer-person" (trying to be gender neutral lol).
Would this be ok?
Thanks guys :)

In my opinion I think it's fine to use templates to some extent in EC... I recently had a discussion about this with another member, you can view the topic here:

using Colouring templates in kindergarten

I think it's absolutely fine to trace around the children's bodies to create your mer- people... I've used this technique before when discussing the human body with preschoolers... I don't see anything wrong with it!

I'd love to see how your mer-people turn out!!

I keep hearing this NOT ALLOWED TO USE TEMPLATES thing & I just don't get it.
Am I missing something or not read something that states this.

I dont get it either, my tafe teacher said that everyones interpretation of EYLF is personal and as long as you can justify what you are doing, its ok, but she did say, no colouring books... so I dont know

I think it is discouraged but its not like you can NEVER use a template for something.
