intentional teaching in the nursery room

Post by a9898 » Sun Jul 01, 2018 4:25 pm

Hi,

So i havent quite done intentional teaching with the babies... always focused on routines and when i do group times its usually with stories and same old songs (that i know) when its abit hectic and just engage with them through the environment and what they are doing....what ideas can you do with toddlers who love animals- identifying and mimicking sounds, music and movement like sleeping bunnies , ring a ring a roses and are just eager to try new things?

- Do you have animal figurines that can be added to the environment for them to play?
- You can sing old McDonald with felt puppets or even hand puppets.
- You can play "animal" songs for the children to listen to such as " In the jungle, the mighty jungle the lions sleeps at niggggght.. a wimbawa a wimbawa etc. (u know that one)?
- Teach new animal songs e.g. "Leo the lion is the king of the jungle and his jaws are big and wide, Leo the lion when he roars "ROAR", you better one away and hide" etc.
- Play animal games e.g. show an image of a cow (or show a toy figurine) what is this? its a cow? what sound does a cow make? moooooooooooooo etc.
- Another one is " 5 cheeky monkey swinging on a tree". There are a ton of fingerplays you can do with this age and babies love music and movement!

Hope this gives you some ideas!
