Hi I have a child who is 8 months, I have a couple of children who are one and most of the children in my room are two. The room isn't very big and it can hold up to 12 children. I was wondering if anyone could please help me I am new in the field, I am trying to make my planning quicker and to show the planning cycle. I was wondering if someone could please help me on permanent learning areas to help me plan from. I need permanent learning areas for the different age groups, that I currently have in a small room, to cater for all the children and to make the room more inviting for the children could someone please help me? it would mean a lot
Thanks Kristy
Permanent learning areas
Re: Permanent learning areas
Hi Kristy,
I would probably recommend dividing your room into interest areas which are the same as learning areas. Then within these learning areas you can change the materials and items according to interests and on a weekly basis. Puzzle areas, home corner, reading area, toy table, drawing/craft area and block area are probably the most beneficial ones to have in your room since you have toddlers. You can divide the areas using carpet or even shelves units if possible. Group a few materials and items and add them to each area. For puzzle area - puzzles, for home corner you could set up dolls etc., reading area - have books, felt stories, puppets, for toy table these can be different manipulative's such as peg boards, lacing cards, nuts and bolts etc. drawing/craft area should be a table set up with writing mediums and paper and block area - building blocks, boxes, animal figurines to build with etc.
Once you have each of the learning areas set up the children will be able to choose what and where they would like to go and play. You could also add tp these areas by using posters and images as well.
