New company and WWCC?

Post by megs_95 » Fri Mar 21, 2014 6:34 pm

So a new company has bought the centre I work in and all others under the same name. Today I (and all the other staff) was informed we need to re-do our working with children check because it's a new company. The thing is, I just did my WWCC four months ago.

Can we be forced to re-do the check, and spent another $80, when we still have a valid WWCC? Especially because mine was done only four months ago... to be honest I'm quite angry that I may have to do it again already.

I don't think it is necessary for you to re-apply for your WWCC... You are still working at the same centre except the employers have changed so I don't see why that's your responsibility. Also the WWCC is valid for 5 years anyway... From what I understand don't you just give your details and your number to your employer and they can check it online?

I found the following information on how employers check workers info:

http://www.kids.nsw.gov.au/FAQ.aspx?SectionID=4#Topic3.

Whatever it is I think it's ridiculous if you have to pay once again. They shouldn't make you do it and you shouldn't have to do it either!

BTW - I just sent them (WWCC people) an email on what to do when changing jobs or employers so I'll let you know once I receive a response from them!

Haha Lorina, right before reading your post I emailed the department about it too!

It seems bizarre to me, I'm fairly certain they'll get back to us and say it doesn't need to be redone... the next step will be taking that email to my manager and the company that bought us. Don't know how that will go. I don't want to be seen to be a pain or kicking up a fuss, but I didn't spend $80 to get four months out of a five-year WWCC :/

:giggle: Great minds think alike!

Don't worry I'd do the same if I was in your situation. Like I said it isn't fair if you have to pay for it again only after 4 months.

Let's see what the department says,

I just received the following information through email from the New Working With Children Check Team:
The New Working With Childrens Check is valid for Five (5) Years from the date it is issued. Therefore you are able to provide your new employer with your surname, date of birth and your WWC number, and they are required to verify your clearance online.

Hope this clears up any confusion,

I received the same email. When I spoke to my managers about it again, they finally realized that I have the NEW wwcc and don't need to reapply. Thanks!
