Hi there,
I work in a Long Day Care Centre and trying to work out if 10 hour shifts (with a day off a week) is possible for our 80 place centre. We currently have around 20 staff members across the week... We would like to implement this but finding it difficult to work out the roster..
Would be great if people could share their rosters with me if this is something that you do... ?
Thanks in advance!
Nic
10 Hour day rosters
Re: 10 Hour day rosters
Hi Nic,
I also preferred to work 10 hour days so I could get my weekly RDO. At my last centre we had about 8 staff and we each had a weekly RDO. It stayed the same throughout the whole year then the following year it changed again. So for one year my RDO was on Friday (3 day long weekend) and the following year it was on a Thursday. No, staff in the same room had their RDO's together. So, if we had to double up it would be 2 educators from 2 different rooms. To work out the roster, you obviously have to work out in the best interests of the children. My busiest days were Tue and Wed so being room leader I never had an RDO on those 2 days. So, maybe have a look at the rolls and work out which are the busiest days so you can keep the neccesarry staff around. Also, we had some staff continue working their 38 hour weekly shift to cover ratio's etc for when the room leaders/assistants had their RDO during the week.
Do you want all staff to work 10 hour shifts? Or only room leaders? How many rooms do you have? How many staff in each room?
Just trying to work out the best solution, as I mentioned I think it may be hard to get everyone 10 hour days...
