Can I be employed while under 18, not qualified, but undertaking my cert iii?

Post by Madison » Mon Jul 15, 2024 12:32 am

Hi there,

I am currently 17 and I am completing my Certificate iii in early childhood education and care at high school, I am ONLY enrolled in school for my certificate, therefore, I am looking for a job or traineeship for the days I am not at school. Are centers allowed to hire me while under 18 and not qualified but undertaking my cert iii and if I am is there limitations on what I can do while working e.g. am I allowed to do nappies and handle food?

I'd appreciate any help, answers, or advice on anyone I could contact to get more information, thank you

Hi!

Welcome to the industry!

Yes, you can work in childcare and undertake a traineeship even if you're under 18. The only restriction is that you do not work alone at the service and you are adequately supervised by an Educator over 18.

You can do nappies and handle food as long as you are supervised.

Let me know if you have any further questions.
