Set up/ Supervision requirements for experiences

List the safety considerations that would need to be taken into account when supervising the children (consider children’s age and skills, space, equipment and restricting the number of children who might access the area at any one time).

NURSERY
1. Ride-on plastic trikes (outdoors) - Lack control and co-ordination, may run into others, maximum of 1 child per bike
2. Push-along trolley (indoors - assuring that the child is able to control the trolley from tipping over, may run into others, maximum of 2 children on 1 trike at a time
3. Infant on floor with activity board - have all activity set up on a mat in a corner of the room, children playing with activity board need to be able to be seen to ensure nothing is put into children’s mouths
4. Indoor slide - one child going down the slide at once, educator to stand beside slide at all times to ensure that the children are able to go down

Good start however, please also consider what could go wrong with each experience/equipment (in terms of behaviours children- use the age ranges as a guide) what would you typically expect to happen? What should you watch for?

To me, at least how I understand it, you just need to provide more detail for each of your experiences/equipment.

So for example your first option

1. Ride-on plastic trikes (outdoors) - Lack control and co-ordination, may run into others, maximum of 1 child per bike

You can elaborate more on how to supervise the use of these toys, where outside they should be used (E.G. flat surfaces, designated bike path/track) & what rules could be in place for using that area. Those rules could help prevent some of the issues you listed such as the running into others one. If there is a rule that they must go in one direction then the supervision of that area would be to remind the children of that rule & make sure that it is followed so that crashes don't occur. Supervision can be used to assist those who need help with their co-ordination & learning to ride the trikes.

This is a nursery experience so I'm not sure on the ages but can they actually participate in those activities? I know where I work the nursery is 0-2yrs so while the older ones can ride a bike, the younger ones can't necessarily crawl or walk yet let alone ride a bike. So it could be that you need to take a look at the age range too? Were they activities you picked or they provided for you?
