Scenario: Larry - Impact Of The Service
Hi Guys, I have completed my NL01 form in relation to Larry Rainbow, and with it I provided every detail I could possibly note.
This was my completed detailed Observation, but my teacher sent it back to be resubmitted, she has stated that: I have not mentioned how this has impacted the operation of the service or what action the Approved Provider has taken to manage the risk. An example on both would help me get started, please if u can help, TIA
Larry Rainbow attends skittles Family Day-care 5 days a week. After reading the Observation report on Larry Rainbow & having a meeting with Larry’s educator, it has come to my attention there are suspicious signs of Larry being Neglected and possibly a victim of physical abuse at home. Larry’s mother brings him to the centre in clothes that Larry has worn for the last 4-5 days he has attended the centre. They are smelly and show signs of previous day’s activities. Larry’s educator attempted to change Larry on the 30/06/215 and found that Larry doesn’t have any spare clothes in his bag. The Educator then used the centres spare clothes to change Larry and upon doing this she found multiple bruises on his right upper thigh and a large bruise on his left ribs. This was noted in the Educators Observation Report and brought to my attention. On the 29/06/2015, Larry’s Educator Joined Larry and his friends at the Morning Tea Table and started discussing with the group of children “what they did when they go home”. After the children shared their stories, Larry said: “He never has to have baths, he just plays in his room and sometimes gets to choose biscuits for dinner”. No further questions were asked from the Educator until Larry was by himself. His Educator asked Larry: “What sorts of things he has for dinner?” Larry’s response: He repeats what he said earlier at the morning tea table and adds “that he gets to have spaghettis sometimes which is his favourite, but mostly has sandwiches and sometimes gets left over takeaway if mummy doesn’t eat it all”.
Larry is always the first at the lunch table and says: “he is always hungry”, he has little food packed in his lunchbox to last the day, the Educators have approached the parents on many occasions suggesting to pack extra food to satisfy the minimum amount of nutrition and satisfy Larry’s hunger. Despite the educator’s attempts of asking for extra food, Larry is still having limited amount of food packed. The Educator has also noticed on many occasions Larry’s mother has dropped Larry off without having any breakfast, upon doing this his mother has said “there was no time for breakfast and he can wait for morning tea which is not too far away”. So, on the morning of 30/06/2015, Larry came to the centre without breakfast so the Educator gave Larry some toast, while Larry was eating his toast, he complains his right wrist was sore. The Educator believed it to be broken due to colouring and severe swelling. Once again this was noted in the Observation Report by the Educator and brought to my attention. The Educator says: Larry loves Painting and craft, but has trouble remembering colours. He has a pet fish at home called: Robert, is a single child, lives in a unit and his mother is unemployed and Larry’s Day-care fees are 4 weeks in arrears.

Re: Scenario: Larry - Impact Of The Service
Your response is very detailed! Maybe it has to do with handling disclosures and how the centre supports Larry during the report etc...

Re: Scenario: Larry - Impact Of The Service
Morning, Lorina. I have now spent the morning answering the first Description that my teacher was wanting me to add.
what action the Approved Provider has taken to manage the risk?.
My Answer:
Larry Rainbow attends skittles Family Day-care 5 days a week. After reading the notes, Observation plus attending a meeting with Larry’s educator. It has come to my attention there are suspicious signs of Larry being Neglected and possibly a victim of physical abuse at home. During this time to help manage the risk of abuse towards Larry, the Staff and I have taken reasonable measures to report any suspicions or allegations of reportable abuse and reasonable precaution in making sure that we protect Larry Rainbow where possible, also suggesting other agency’s to the family for help and support. The centre has followed all policies and procedures, especially our child protection policy and endorses high quality practices in relation to protecting of children.
Will let you know how I go adding the next:
how this has impacted the operation of the service?

Re: Scenario: Larry - Impact Of The Service
This is what the Teacher is meaning in regards to my last question
imagine you are the Group Leader in the room that Larry attends and think about what needs to take place every day that Larry is at the service so there is enough documentation to provide to the authority to investigate the suspected abuse. While this is occurring, what is happening in the room with the other children

Re: Scenario: Larry - Impact Of The Service
I think your response is good! Being the approved provider you need to support the educators in reporting the abuse and keep Larry safe from harm.what action the Approved Provider has taken to manage the risk?.

Re: Scenario: Larry - Impact Of The Service
Could this mean observing Larry, spending individual time with him, talking to him, documenting what he says during conversations, taking photos of signs of abuse for documentation purposes. Having extra educators in the room to accommodate the other children...imagine you are the Group Leader in the room that Larry attends and think about what needs to take place every day that Larry is at the service so there is enough documentation to provide to the authority to investigate the suspected abuse. While this is occurring, what is happening in the room with the other children
