Planning a Centre Event

Post by Tinybubu » Wed May 14, 2014 9:44 pm

Your Assignment Module Number and Heading: Collaborative Partnerships (CHCORG506E, CHCRF511A, CHCCN520C)
Your Assignment Type: Case Scenario
Currently Working in Childcare? No
Your knowledge: Beginner

Your Question?
Case Scenario : There is a BBQ at the child care centre organised by the parent committee for new families to get to know each other. Each family attending will have to pay $10.The parent committee will take care of the prep of the BBQ, the clean up and the cooking while the staff takes care of the rest. Tasks are delegated and all is well until Norman asks if his own family can attend. Tim responds that he is not opposed to the idea and asks for comments from others. The response is mixed.

The younger members of staff are not keen to bring their partners - they think it will be boring.
Anan, Joe and Zennie think its a great idea.
Adam is gay and worries that some parents may not be comfortable if he brings his partner.
Hui thinks it would be easier to interact with the families if their own family were not present - Hasna and Gigi agree.
David argues that if staff are expected to attend without being paid overtime or given time-in-lieu then their own family should be able to attend free of charge.
The staff members begin to discuss the issues among themselves and Tim calls the meeting to order.

Question 2
A. How should Tim make the final decision as to whether or not to include staff's family at the event using participative decision making? Refer to your textbook " Business of Child Care"

(a) List and describe the different decision making options Tim should use to make the final decision?
(b) What issues should Tim consider in deciding whether to involve the team in the decision making?

B.If staff families do attend the BBQ should they pay? Using your answers from Qn A, what is an appropriate resolution and what are the conditions of this decision?

C. How does participative decision making benefit the team and service?

D. What would your next step be after the event in determining its success? How would you do this and who would be involved?

What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
I have tried to answer A-a and A-b and I wanted to ask if this was the correct answer.

A-a) The different decision making processes are - non-routine decision making (tactical), non-routine decision making (strategic) and participative decision making.

A-b) Tim should consider the following in deciding whether to involve the team in the decision making -

Is input from the team genuinely wanted, needed or required?
Is the issue relevant to team members? Does the issue concern the whole team or only some members of the team?
Is the issue important? Time should not be wasted on issues of a trivial nature.
Who can contribute to the decision-making process? Do individuals have the relevant skills, knowledge or experience to provide input into the decision making process?
Are there restrictions on what decisions can be made? Are there any preconceived views that will impact on the acceptance of the team’s input?
Has the team been given the necessary time to consider the issue and make an informed decision?
Is the process likely to polarise or factionalise the team? Will the decision result in conflict?

Does anybody have any ideas on how to answer B,C and D?

Thank you so much for reading my question and hopefully, you'll be able to help.
