Music and Movement Experiences To Support Cultural Diversity

Post by tara50 » Fri Apr 17, 2015 3:45 pm

Hi there,

I am currently on my first Work PLacement for Diploma. I need to implement a music and movement experience that also encourages cultural diversity. The experience needs to stem from the interests of one of three focus children that I have chosen. One of my focus children enjoys dancing, and the whole room enjoys music, but they educators don't seem to focus much on music and movement, group time is always done with the children sitting down on the mat. I have plenty of ideas to do with music and movement but I am not sure how to make it culturally appropriate to this particular focus child. She is Australian, her parents and grandparents are Australian. I could offer diverse musical instruments for the children to play and experiment with, however I am not sure if this relates enough to my focus child.

Any thoughts or feedback would be much appreciated.

Thank you
Tara

How about teaching the children a bush dance, dancing to Australian sons by Australian artists...

Hope this gives you an idea,

Hi,
I found a great clip on you-tube called Jump Jump Jump Like a Kangaroo, because we have a family of Kangaroos not far from us.
It definitely gets the children moving and is a catchy song.
It also has didgeridoos in it which led us to our didgeridoo making, photo in my Art and Craft album.
Have fun
