CHCece023 - Scenario: Thomas - Intellectual Disability

Post by Trax » Mon Sep 26, 2016 8:04 pm

Section 2.
You are an educator in an Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) centre. You are working one-on-one with Thomas, a six -year -old boy with intellectual disability. Responses should demonstrate inclusive practices and how to interpret and respond to out of character behaviour.
1. Provide examples of observations (including one out of character Observation) that might to be used to assess Thomas’s:
a. Play Preferences.
b. Social interactions.
c. Communication and language.
d. Thinking styles.
e. Physical abilities.
f. Emotional status.
my answer so far but i am confused
Activities I would observe Thomas in and believe would be active in are:
a. Thomas may prefer to play with male structured activities. This would be Trains, Cars. For this observation I would place Thomas with a number of other children including girls to play with the cars and trains to construct streets and cities or farms.
b. Thomas may interact mainly with younger children or with males more than girls and children his age.
I believe this for Thomas’s intellectual understanding is younger than another six-year old’s intellectual skills. I would

Ok so for this question, you need to provide observations for each of points (a to f). When creating observations you need to address each of the points e.g. play preference, social interactions etc.

This may help:

Inclusive Practice
