CHCECE022 - Case study

Post by veronicanguyen » Thu Aug 13, 2015 11:35 pm

Hi everyone, I am working on my new unit and i am not so sure with my answers.

A child often stands to watch others or looks on at activities without participating. Today, she is standing next to the collage table. No other children are working there. She starts to play with some materials/ equipment : touching, gluing, moving. And she continues to look at the content of the table in front of her.

1. How could you encourage Thalia to direct her own play and leisure?
I will give her time to see what is happening prior to intervening. Then, I will use open-ended questions to find out what Thalia is doing. It will be easy for me to direct her own play and leisure. When i know what she wants/ like/ is doing, i will encourage her to explore. If she does not know what she is doing, how can I encourage her to direct her own play and leisure?

2. How could you encourage Thalia to direct her own play and leisure with her peers?
Ask her friends to come and join with her. Her friends can show her how to glue/ cut/ paint/ etc?

4. What intentional teaching could you provide Thalia?
I can provide her with "Christmas tree" by using small flat disc and colorful beads. She will need to glue the disc on a piece of paper and use colorful beads to decorate. This activity will help her to develop her collage skill (as she is playing at the collage table so i guess she likes collage activities). I choose these materials because in the case study she is playing with them.

5. How could you support Thalia to initiate play experiences that would be of value to the intentional teaching?
I do not know how to answer this question.

Please help to correct me as I have no idea if I am on the right track for the answers.

Thanks so much

V
