hello. these are my answers. could you please make sure i am on the right track and comment on what i have done
1. For each of the following scenarios;
a) Discuss whether you would remove any hazards immediately or secure the area to prevent children accessing the hazard.
b) Give reasons for your answers.
Scenario 1
During outdoor time one of the children in the 4-5 year age group tells you they have just seen a snake slither into the garden. You haven’t seen it but the child tells you it is in the garden bed.
a) Firstly based on what I have heard I would evacuate the area and move the children immediately to a safe location, ask another supervisor to check if they can spot the snake and call the snake catcher to handle the snake.
b) This is to prevent children accessing the hazard.
Scenario 2
Overnight there has been a heavy rainfall and one of the small retaining walls in the yard has started to collapse. You have called the owner and he is on his way to fix it but it is the pre-schoolers outdoor time.
a) If the wall collapses I would move the children and explain to them why from that area and block the area so the children will not be able to accesss the area until it is repaired. Also have staff to assist supervising and making sure children are not near the area
b) I would do this so to prevent children accessing hazards and making sure children stay safe at all times.
