I don't know if I am on the right track with this question and was hoping for some advice.
QUESTION:
How does the theory of child growth standards and maturation apply when monitoring and assessing a child’s physical development?
MY ANSWER:
Growth standards have been used since 2006 and are what children up to 5 years old are measured against they give us guidelines on whether a child is developing at expected rates as well as giving us a guideline on children’s expected weight, height, length and head circumference, the growth standards should not be used alone. Maturation is how we change, develop and grow throughout life, it’s the readiness of a child and there are normal patterns to maturation.
However, when monitoring and assessing a child’s physical development you consider both Growth Standards and Maturation and use them as guidelines however, every child is different, no two children develop in the exact same way so its important assess each child invdividually.
