The question is to Research the four foundations of working with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people (Cultural Safety, Cultural Awareness, Cultural Sensitivity & Cultural Protocols) In your own words, informed by your own research, reflect the meaning of each & how you would implement all 4 elements into your industry.

Can I have some advice if I'm on the right track with the first foundation Cultural Safety? TIA

1. Cultural Safety
Cultural safety is about everyone feeling safe and like they belong in their environment. It is about providing a safe and nurturing place that is respectful and inclusive of the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people. As a non-Aboriginal person, it is important to help in creating and maintaining a place where the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders feel safe & secure about who they are and their culture. By providing an environment like this, we are able to create an inviting place that gives the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people a sense of belonging and identity. They shouldn’t feel as if they are being denied their culture or their identities. It is important that they feel comfortable and that they are encouraged and able to express themselves when it comes to their culture and their spiritual & belief system. A culturally safe environment is one where the people in it are sharing knowledge, being respectful of each other and learning & working together. When an Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander person is in a culturally safe environment it gives them the feeling of security in their identity, their culture and their community.
