CHCCS400C - Strategies For Suspected Child Abuse, Uphold Rights Of Children

Post by magic_dudu » Wed Feb 11, 2015 8:32 am

Hello everyone,

I would like some assistance on the following two questions, especially the 2nd question, I did not get good mark for it.
1. What strategies would you use to manage a child protection issue such as suspected abuse of a child?
My answer: I will share my concerns with the class trainer/supervisor, link trainer/supervisor or person in charge of child protection within the centre. I may put my concerns into writing, making sure that what I write down is clear, factual and without speculation. I would then report this child protection matter to the Department of Human Services in Victoria on 131 278, If that is life threatening concern, I would have to ring Victoria Police 000.

2. Describe ways that you can uphold the rights of a child in your care, in keeping with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
My answer: For example, a child from a low social economic background will get the same level of treatment/education as one from a working class background. We are not discriminating the child who is from the differing background, similarly, if we have a child with English as an second language, we are going to provide additional support for them so they are able to participate with the other children. Something important to remember is to be inclusive. We need to involve families of children from different cultural backgrounds, because parents can often be so much helpful. We could hold a day where we educators talk to the children about their background, we could make a real effort and learn a couple of words of their first language and etc.

I appreciate your opinions and help. Thank you.

Melody

Hi Melody,

I just discovered that you have copied and pasted the response to your second question from the following topic:

Uphold Rights Of Children In Your Care which another user has posted. All support given on this forum should only be used as a guide and not to be copied and pasted in your assignments. I am no longer offering you my support until you show that your answers are your own.

Hi Lorina,

Thank you very much for your response. I apologize if this has been offended, I will make sure to correctly reference in the future if I am using someone else's comment as a guide for my answers.

Warm Regards,

Melody,

Thank you for your understanding and taking responsibility. Appreciate it!

It's really important as a student to show your understanding of the questions you need to answer. Even when researching or reading up on information you need to take what you have learnt from your readings and convey it in your own words. Your teacher wants to know if you understand the question based on what you have learnt...

Hi Lorina,

I hope you could kindly review my below answers to the above 2 questions and advise me further if necessary.

1. I will share my concerns with the class trainer/supervisor, link trainer/supervisor or person in charge of child protection within the centre. I may put my concerns into writing, making sure that what I write down is clear, factual and without speculation. I would then report this child protection matter to the Department of Human Services in Victoria on 131 278, If that is life threatening concern, I would have to ring Victoria Police 000.

2. For example, we can uphold the rights of a child to relax, play and to join in a wide range of leisure activities by implementing the following strategies in our care services:
• provide a quiet and restful environment for sleep and rest periods that is within hearing and observation range for us to closely monitor children
• recognise the differences between each child and family’s preferences in relation to routines for rest, sleep and clothing
• respect the need for rest, sleep and clothing requirements to be aligned with each child’s social and cultural background and personal preferences
• communicate daily with parents about their child’s routines that are in place at the service and at the child’s home
• work with children to help them learn about their need for rest and comfort.
• negotiate the need for sleep and rest with children
• provide appropriate and quiet play activities for children who do not require sleep or rest
• encouraged children to make appropriate decisions about their participation throughout their time at the service
• provide clean, appropriate spare clothes to each child when necessary
• group children in a way that minimises overcrowding
• respect each child’s needs of privacy during dressing and undressing times

Than you. I greatly appreciate it.

Warm Regards,

Melody
