This part requires you to develop a promotion strategy, along with supporting materials and activities for an organisation that is responsible for the leadership and management of nine early childhood education and care services on remote communities in central Australia. The services cater for the education, health and wellbeing of children from birth to school age whilst building family capacity to support their children’s development.
The promotion strategy you develop is to:
- provide a brief overview of the different cultural approaches and practices that the service can provide for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families
- suggest how the organisation recognises the impact of historical factors on current cultural realities and explain how the service deals with these
- identify suitable resources and work practices to meet client needs.
Your supporting materials and activities may include posters, brochures, an advertising campaign, role plays and stories, a brief play or other culturally appropriate activities.
Part B - Communicating effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples
Student instructions
This part requires you to undertake internet research, or to read the employment sections of newspapers to locate a job advertisement for a position in the early childhood sector that require applicants to work as part of a team to provide support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their families, or similar.
On locating a suitable position, identify the role and responsibilities for the position, then discuss and give examples that show you understand what is required of the position. In your answer highlight what skills and knowledge are required to communicate effectively.
Submit a copy of the advertisement to support your answers.
Part C - Reflecting cultural safety in relationships
Student instructions
This part requires you to prepare an information poster that highlights the key points about cultural safety in the workplace and in professional relationships.
Your poster should illustrate, summarise and/or explain the key points about:
- mutual respect and tolerance of diversity
- some of the critical issues that may affect relationships with Indigenous clients and co-workers and strategies for maintaining effective relationships
- suggestions for overcoming any difficulties, differences or misunderstandings.
You may include material you have prepared in activities included in your Learner Guide.
