Resources Brought In By Educators

Post by meljen72 » Mon Jul 27, 2020 8:15 pm

The centre I work at has very little engaging resources for 4 to 5year old. So I bring in a lot of my resources to help keep the children engaged.

I had a meeting with HR and was told that any resources that I buy and bring in, and then these become part of the room , that these resources will now be owned by the childcare centre.
Their explanation was that children are used to them being in the room , so that means that they have to stay.

I have never been told this by the other numerous centres that I have worked in. And it seems BS.

What a crock of s%^&!!!!

Sorry but are you kidding me?? That's the lamest excuse I have ever heard! Let's spend our own money by numeorus resources then they become the centres because the children will miss them if gone!! OMG! The excuses employers give never cease to amaze me!

If that's the case, you should be reinburst for all the resources you buy for the "centre". If they pay you for the resources then fine leave them there but if they are not even paying you dont bother...

Honestly....

Take home all your resources and stop bringing them in.
It’s not fair on you and it’s not fair on the children or parents. The centre is making money on each enrolment and they should be putting that back into resources, food and staffing.

Having to constantly bring in my own resources was a huge part of why I left centres & started family day care.

I bring my own resources, when doing programming with certain children as I can't always be sure the centre has them available at the time. I then take it home when finished.

let's give the police a call to clarify this. I guess the company will have to hire a good lawyer to "Explain "this to the police officers.

I would then be providing a list of resources and materials and kindly let them know they are under resourced. I would inform then I need X,Y,Z in order to provide valuable learning opportunities for them.

Ummmm no you buy you keep- the approved provider needs to ensure there are an adequate volume of resources for the number of children enrolled - if that’s not the case then remove yours and request more

I know of other centres that implemented that rule. All of the staff took their resources that they bought and kept them at home. The centre then changed their policy back quickly after that.

I would say ‘ok, if you are willing to reimburse me the cost then they will become the property of the service, until then they belong to me and if I am made to leave them here I will put forth a claim of theft’.

No way! If you bought them with your own money then they are yours! Unless the service are going to reimburse you for the cost of the resources, then no, they can’t keep them. Stand your ground!

Absolutely not. If the centres ask for them, give them your receipts and ask to be reimbursed. That is ridiculous
