7 hours, no break.
7 hours, no break.
Did relief work today in a Steiner kindergarten as an assistant. I worked 7 hours and was given no breaks, I asked the teacher and she laughed at me and was incredibly rude. Is this legal?
Re: 7 hours, no break.
I'm sorry to hear you had a crappy day....
I had a look through the Children's Service Award in regards to your breaks, it says:
- when working an excess of 5 hours, an unpaid meal break of 30 minutes
- when working 7 hours or more you are entitled to 2 10 minutes paid rest breaks
I'm adding a snapshot of the information within the Children's Serves Award, it's on page 24 for your reference:

It's good to be aware of this so you know what you're entitled to...
Hopefully you have a better day,

Re: 7 hours, no break.
I do relief work at a kindergarten and we don't get an actual break. There is no way to with only 2 staff. We wouldn't be able to keep ratios.
Basically you can go to the toilet whenever of course and when the kids have morning tea and lunch is when you have your food. It is in the permanent staffs contracts apparently.
