Can a primary teacher work in a 4 year old room in Victoria?

Post by Elle 3948 » Fri Oct 23, 2020 5:18 pm

Hi there!

I'm a primary school teacher who has taught prep- year 2 mainly, but was wondering if I can apply for roles in a 4 year old room in an ELC - Year 12 school?

If not, what qualifications do I need to obtain and can I be working towards them whilst working in this setting?

Thanks so much for your advice, in advance!

Hi,

You'll need an early childhood education
and care qualification.

This can be a certificate, diploma, degree, masters etc

If your teaching degree didn't include ECEC a graduate diploma would probably be your next best option.

Graduate diplomas are usually a year long (which is less than a certificate or diploma), accredited by ACECQA and you will be an early childhood teacher.

RMIT, Melbourne University, Victoria University are some of the education providers that offer diplomas to become an ECT.
You can also:
- get in touch with university careers department's as a prospective student to get information and advice too
- check ACECQA's website for your current qualifications
- browse job websites, childcare company websites etc to see what employers are wanting

Put some links below
Hope its helpful :)
