Hi,
I am really puzzled whether I answered the first question right. and I'm really stuck in the second question.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Case Study 6
Sparked by some comments that the children had made earlier in the year about their outdoor environment being ‘boring’ and that there was ‘nothing to do’, you had a critical look at the service’s outdoor play area and decided that the children were right. Everything was artificial and plastic. So, in consultation with the children and families, you embark on a project to improve your outdoor environment. Once finished, your play area will have a ‘fairy garden’ complete with bridge, a wooden jetty and boat, as well as a dry river bed for the children to play in. A week after your environment ‘makeover’ is finished, a few families (who gave no input in the planning phase), approach you to express concern about how dangerous they feel the new features are, and that they would like you to remove them before a serious accident occurs.
Complete the following:
1.What would be the most constructive way to respond to these families’ concerns?
= I would listen to their concerns first and take their suggestion into consideration. However, I would kindly explain to them that before this makeover started, we follow a consultation process wherein we consulted children and their families and they suggested improving the outdoor environment. I would assure the parents as well that before the makeover, the consideration of making the children safe whilst playing was seriously studied. But I would also assure them that their suggestion will be seriously considered and for the moment, I would make sure that there’s no serious accident will happen because of the new outdoor environment. And I would encourage them as well to participate in the consultation next time when making a consultation session with parents so their voice and suggestion will be considered before making any makeovers in the centre.
2.Identify five information resources that relate to risk taking, natural environments and active physical play that you could share with families within the service to justify the changes you have made. In your answer, include the full title of each information resource, and/or website including the web address to clearly identify the resources you would direct the parent to.

Re: Scenario: New Outdoor Area - Safety Concerns
For your first question, yes you're on the right track.. you could also ask the parents what areas of the outdoor environment that they feel are unsafe specifically and provide them with information of the supervision strategies you currently have in place while outdoors to ensure that children are not hurt... You could also set up a parent afternoon where you take them through the new outdoor area and explain what has been changes, supervision requirements that are being implemented and how the new outdoor environment complies with the national quality standards...
