Scenario: Matt - Managing Work Duties

Post by Mughal » Sun May 01, 2016 7:54 am

Hi I am on assessment task 3
And want to know whether I am on right track?

3.2 Matt is aeducator in the preschool room. In addition to his normal duties Matt’s supervisor has asked him to tackle
the indoor storeroom which has become quite a mess. The supervisor suggested he could do this over several
weeks only as time permitted.
Matt, eager to please, decides he will get the job done as quickly as possible. All week Matt has been going into
the storeroom as soon as he finishes a task. At he end of the week the supervisor pulls him aside. “Matt, I can
see that you’ve been very diligent in tackling the storeroom but I did say to do it only as time permits. You’ve
hardly spent any time with the children this week. You need to think about your priorities.”
Max walks away feeling confused, after all he did get his other jobs done before going into the storeroom.
The supervisor reflects to herself that Matt, although keen, has no idea how to manage his workload and
priorities!

Normal duties
Supervise children
Put up children art work
Set up activity for children
Sweep the sandpit

Task to organise in store room
Remove brokken toys
Label box
Fx shelving units
Unpack new equipment

List two questions Matt could have asked the supervisor to clarify what was expected of him?

Answer :
Q1. How can he prioritize the task of his daily normal routine and store room activities

Q2. what are the most important activities to be done in store room

List to suggestions the supervisor could provide Matt to ensure he is able to manage workload and priorities

Answer:
Supervisor can tell Matt to make a check list and doing his normal duties and supervision of children is more important than the store room.
He can tell Matt that his normal duties are his first priority and store room is secondary.

Identify the normal duties Matt can forgo in order to complete the store room task

Answer: Put up children art work
Set up activity for chldren

Because supervising children and sweeping sanpit is important to aviod any hazard and risk to children

Yes, you're on the right track with your response!

More ideas include:

- Matt was told he had several weeks to do this and he completed it in a week.
- Should of been supervising the children rather than staying indoors cleaning.
- Even though usual tasks are complete he needed to engage with the children as well.
