Post by Klara97 » Mon Dec 01, 2014 1:32 pm

Your Assignment Module Number and Heading: Ensure the health and safety of children
Your Assignment Type: Standard Question
Currently Working in Childcare? No
Your knowledge: Beginner

Your Question?
John Smith who is 4 years of age is riding a bike on the bike track. The educator Yahma had just spoken to john about his behaviour -going too fast and try to crash into the other children also riding bikes. Yahma reminded john of the safe bike riding rules.
Ten minutes later John again attempts to crash into the back of another bike rider. John's bike overturns and John screams. Yahma look up from talking to another child. As the nearest staff member. Yahma reaches him first and finds John has a deep cut on his calf and it is bleeding profusely. John has touched the wound. He has blood on his hands and the blood is seeping into his sock. He will not walk and he is too big to carry. Yahma does have disposable gloves with her. She has a First Aid Certificate and is authorised to administer first aid

Question 1: How should Yahma respond(Consider implementing correct procedures including administering first aid and managing blood spills)

Could someone please help me out i'm stuck on just this one question if anyone could you would be a true life saver and an angel

What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
Grab a bucket of water wipe it all over the saw with a cloth then once it looks clean enough put a patch over it check to see if he has any other saws around his body. Check to make sure he is breathing normally. Call his parents up to double check if it would be ok for them to pick him up as the blood was bleeding quite seriously and more than likely he probably will need stitching

Description and Message:
Pretty please can someone help me it would be greatly appreciated

Administering First Aid

1) Tell a child to run and get another educator & first aid kit
2) Grab a bottle of water and rinse the wound (hopefully the first aid kit has arrived, put gloves on)
3) Elevate the leg and apply pressure using a gauze/bandage
- Get a bucket of water to wash child hands, remove child's shoes and bloody sock
4) If blood is soaked through apply another bandage, keep applying pressure and elevate it
5) For deep wound needs stitches contact parents to let them know what has happened
6) Once bleeding has stopped help child to stand up and sit in a comfortable place with leg elevated, give water wait for parents to arrive, if light headed give something to eat such as biscuit.
7) Fill out an accident form

For Managing Blood Spills

Area should be flushed with warm water and detergent. If blood isn't coming off the track should be scrubbed off using detergent. Once it has come off disinfect it using Dettol and air dry clean. Children shouldn't go near the area at all until all blood has been removed and disinfected.

Hope this helps,
