Bhjan is eight years old and has just arrived to your place of work , three weeks ago him and his family have been given Asylum in Australia and his mum has just been given a part time job, Bhjain is a happy a little shy and very wary of strangers . he is slowly setting into the centre and has formed a strong bond with you/

What information would be helpful in supporting and working with him?

how could you support bhijan?

what resources are available to your organisation to support bhijans needs?

Hi Jsmd,

I wanted to give you some suggestions regarding your following questions.

What information would be helpful in supporting and working with him?

Find out about interests, skills, strengths, weaknesses etc. General details about where he has taken asylum from.

how could you support bhijan?

Provide support in English language through songs, chants and rhymes.

Encourage him in social skills through games, group activities.

When a new face arrives talk to Bhijan about who it is. For example
"Joe is here to fix the light in the bathroom" etc.

Provide opportunities for Bhijan to have some quiet time.

what resources are available to your organisation to support bhijans needs?

I would contact Inclusion Support Agency and have a chat to them about this particular family and discuss the best way to support Bhijans needs.

Good Luck!
