Improving Your Own Cultural Competence

Post by nemodori » Fri Jan 29, 2016 4:16 pm

The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) (2009) describes cultural competence as ‘the ability to understand, communicate with, and effectively interact with people across cultures’. Complete the following:

1) According to the EYLF cultural competence encompasses?

I answered:

• Being aware of one’s own world view
• Developing positive attitudes towards cultural differences
• Gaining knowledge of different cultural practices and world views
• Developing skills for communication and interaction across cultures

QUESTION 2 (B)

Select one of the above skills that you feel you could work on to improve your own cultural competence and describe how you would go about acquiring or improving upon the selected skill.

I don't understand (B) because there is no 'skills' listed above where I can select one.
I don't know what (B) is referring to.
Do any of you understand the question? Or am I actually thinking correct that I have to choose a skill that's listed above?

And one more question..

(C) With reference to the EYLF:
- Principle 2 Partnerships,
- Pronciple 4 Respect and Diversity
- Outcome 1 Children have a Strong Sense of Identity

How can the educators acknowledge and support children's families culture?

Please help me with B and C.
And please correct me if I am incorrect with A.
