Implementing Culturally Inclusive Practices

Post by seep » Thu Nov 05, 2015 2:05 pm

Q-detail how you would communicate/ implement the following culturally inclusive practices with families/ children within a service (keep in mind the large variety of cultures a servi could be accomodating)

How would you implement---------

1-A culturally inviting and welcoming service entrance/ foyer
• written information or welcome posters in community languages
• pictures or photographs that show the cultural profile of your community and service
• music from other cultures quietly playing in the background
• soft furnishings that reflect other cultures, for example, a cushion, wall screen, or wall hanging
• a chair or two for a parent to sit down while they wait for you
• a small table and a basket of resources for children to play while their parents talk with you
-----------------------------------------
2-A culturally inclusive enrolment process

1- talk with families about their customs values and beliefs
2-asking families to bring along family photos
3-ask families to share how they celebrate different occasions
4-including questions about cultural backgrounds on the family day care scheme's enrolment form
--------------------------------------------
3-3-Respectful interactions with families, acknowledging language barriers

1-Create a welcoming atmosphere
2-Have open communication
3-Create a room notice board
4-Arrange a calendar of family events
5-Encourage parent input into the Program and Planning –
6-Hold social events for childcare professionals and parents
------------------------------------------
4-A culturally appropriate orientation process for new families

1-letting families know that they are welcome to visit the centre at any time
2-convying to families that their child is valuable to the child care staff
3-always greeting children and their families warmly when they arrive and asking questions about child's needs and their issues and experiences in daily routine outside the center
4-having warm, relaxed, friendly informal conversations that are supportive for family culture
5-be sensitive and professional and ensuring that family's privacy is important
6-extending warmth and acceptance to all families equitably
7-involving families in the regular updating of the service's philosophies, policies and procedures
8-encouraging a two way flow of information about children's interests so the program is interesting and relevant to the child
9-documenting children's experiences in a way that are interesting and easy for families to understand
----------------------------------------------
5-Implement professional development within the service

PLEASE HELP ME FOR this

----------------------------------------------
6-Gain information on the cultural backgrounds of families attending the service

1- Get to know families at your ECEC service
2- Be open to different types of families
3- Work to develop positive relationships with families
4-encourage families to spend time in the service nd to share elements of their family culture in the children's program
5-invite families to document their family experiences and interests in a variety of forums to help educators learn about families and their culture
6-create photographic displays to understand different cultures
---------------------------------------------------
7-what experiences could you implement, that focus on events, customs and beliefs of children within the service

5-Implement professional development within the service

Do a survey from the educators on areas they would like to improve or gain more knowledge about
Hold a staff workshop once a month
Get participating staff to create their own presentations on topics they are knowledgeable in to support others

what experiences could you implement, that focus on events, customs and beliefs of children within the service

Celebrate cultural days that are important to families
Read stories
Sing songs etc.

Cultural Connections

Hope this helps,

Assessment of degree for working as ECT

Post by sonu kaur » Sat Jan 30, 2021 4:33 pm

Hi all

I hold a bachelor in education from India and received an assessment from Overseas Qualification Unit Victoria that says my degree is equivalent to an Australian bachelor degree. I want to know if I can work as 3 years ECT with my current centre where I am the room leader for 3 years old room. Any piece of advice will be much appreciated.
Thanks
Sonu

Hi Sonu,

You have to register with VIT to be an ECT in  Victoria. If VIT have already said you qualification is fine here, then it should be a straight forward process to register.

You can register online and if you have any questions or issues just contact them

As soon as your registered if your current centre wants to take you on as a ect then your good to go.

Good luck!
