How to accommodate children who have immigrated to australia who do not speak english

Two children have recently immigrated to australia from italy with their family,they have just been enrolled with the service provider where you are employed.The children start next week.
the parents speak a little english,however the children do not speak english...
Q:How can you accommodate the new children and ensure that they have a smooth transaction?



I have a few ideas how to answer this ,but am unsure how to write it down

USE SIMPLE WORDS
USE NON VERBAL AND VERBAL COMMUNICATION
SIGNAGE,INTERPRETER
GESTURES,FACIAL EXPRESSIONS

The ideas you have suggested are a great way of how to communicate with these children who cannot speak English.

Italian is a very easy language to learn as the way you pronounce the words is as you read them, so you could probably ask the parents to write down some phrases you can use throughout the day with their children. You could also probably suggest to your director to purchase an Italian phrase book...

You could also suggest to contact inclusion support which will come and assess the children, with permission from the parents, to see if a interpreter is required to help ease the transition into care for both these children.

The policies and procedures which probably be used is cultural diversity, family contributions etc. However, it will be very general and won't outline the specific strategies mentioned above...
