Culture scenario

Scenario 2 - Promote and establish constructive, respectful relationships.

Nikki has recently enrolled in your service. He is four years old and his parents are both professionals. Mandarin is the language spoken at home. You are aware that Nikki seems to be very tired towards the end of the week and lacks focus. You ask to speak to Nikki's parents who arrive with limited English language. After discussing how Nikki is progressing you observe the parents talking to Nikki in Mandarin. You attempt to speak with them in English and recognise that some of your comments may not be interpreted as you intend them. Finally after 30 minutes Nikki tells you he attends another service 5 days a week after he finishes at your service. You ask him what time he gets home and he states that he finishes his other school at 7.00pm and goes to his grandmother's home. He says his parents pick him up at 9.00pm each night.

How will you approach the issue of Nikki attending another service (which you realise is a school preparation service)?

How does the service approach the expectations that Nikki's parents may have on him?

Can someone please help as I am stuck on these two questions. I'm thinking you could have a meeting with the parents, ask them what they want and expect out of the service and provide more for him to do at the service. But I'm stuck on what to say especially the second question as it is hard to understand.
