Read through the following teachable moments and decide how toy would respond.
Casey (3) asks why Arthur (aboriginal) has a dirty skin
Meggie (6) states that Alicia (who has a physical impairment) cannot play in her basketball team as she is too slow
Kaitlin(4) asks why Jonathon (who has same sex parents) does not have a dad.


What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
Casey: Arthur is an aboriginal. Most aboriginals have dark skin.
Meggie: Alicia may not be a fast as you but it is important that everyone has a go and feel like they belong in a group.
Kaitlin: Jonathon has 2 mummies.

Found question 3 hard to answer. Need to know if I am on the right track.

Yes. you're on the right track with your responses.

Children are curious and ask a lot of questions especially if they notice something different. Being open, honest and answering their questions will help them understand. For your responses you can also include the following:

Casey (3) asks why Arthur (aboriginal) has a dirty skin

Talk to Casey about differences and similarities between people. Discuss how some children have different skin colour based on where they come from.
Meggie (6) states that Alicia (who has a physical impairment) cannot play in her basketball team as she is too slow

Support Alicia to explain to Maggie about her physical impairment and how even though she may not be as fast she is good at other skills in basketball such as throwing, passing, shooting etc.
Kaitlin(4) asks why Jonathon (who has same sex parents) does not have a dad.
