CHCCS400C - Scenario: Catarina

Post by marichi » Mon Apr 14, 2014 8:45 am

Your Assignment Module Number and Heading: chccs400c
Your Assignment Type: Case Scenario
Currently Working in Childcare? Yes
Your knowledge: Beginner

Your Question?
Catarina's mum has asked when she is writing or using fine motor skills for the staff to tie her left hand behind her back as she wants Catarina to use her right hand. She refuses to have a" left-handed child". q1: What are your concerns and why? q2 who would you address your concerns with and why? q3 What is your responsibility to the child in this scenario?

What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
q1 I can encourage right hand skills to Catarina, but can not force it, tell parent I can not tie her hand behind her back, q2 tell room leader about her request and centre director so they can work out something.q3 my responsibility is to make her feel safe, and secure and she has a choice of which hand she is comfortable with. that is all I have for now.

It's actually a form of physical abuse if you tie the child's hand up. A concern will also be whether the mother does this at home which will probably need to be reported. The parent is not allowing the child to do what comes natural which will leave the child with emotional and psychological disturbances, Does the child get punished at home for using their left hand? Yes report to the director about what the parent suggested. Support the child by encouraging her to use whatever had she feels comfortable with...
