ChCCS400C - Parent Talking About Families While Out

Post by Aunty Jennys FDC » Wed Feb 04, 2015 9:14 am

Scenario 4

You are out with your work colleagues, when you see one of the parents from the service where you are employed. The parent comes over to your work group and starts talking to you about other families at the service. She mentions that she has seen one family that attends the service lock their 3 children under 10 years of age outside the home for extended periods of time.

How would you deal with the situation at the time? What would you say?
What concerns do you have with this situation? Relate your answers to relevant legal and ethical guidelines.
How would you deal with the information the parent shared with you?

I have answered the first one.
The second one I have put one of my concerns as being confidentiality is there anything else I should mention. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The third one I have said:
I would get the parent who gave my the information to put it in writing so I can the pass it onto the director
I would then inform the director of the conversation (in private of course)
Should I be going to the family which the information affects? What else should I put down.

Thank you for your help.

For the second one, yes Confidentiality and Privacy is one and you can also relate to the Code Of Ethics:

Code Of Ethics

As for the third one, I would just record the details and information shared with you by the parent, let the director know and let it be. I mean, it's hard to come to a conclusion that this family is neglecting their children because of what a parent witnessed and if her information is actually liable. So, with what you had recorded keep it in the child's file and keep an eye on the family. Maybe even talk to the kids casually about what they do at home etc. If you suspect any harm then you can take it further but until then there is no need to pursue this matter.

Hope this helps,
